Summit against Disinformation: Hungary expects legal changes at European level

Hungarian law does not allow for the amendment of the statute of the National Office for Media and Telecommunications. And at the moment, this office does not have the competence to conduct cases regarding disinformation.

Dr. György Ocskó, International Legal Advisor to the National Office for Media and Telecommunications and the Media Council, believes that Hungary must change this legal situation, giving the national regulator all authorization to conduct cases related to the dissemination of hate speech.
"Hungary participates in the work of the European group of media regulators, which has a subgroup dealing with the fight against disinformation, and we actively participate in this subgroup so that the fight against disinformation can be conducted more effectively at the European level," emphasizes Dr. György Ocskó.

The Warsaw Summit against Disinformation takes place on October 4-5, 2023 at the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
